Off to the River

The day dawned beautiful.  One of those days that make it okay to live through the long winter in order to get to enjoy this.  I met the first plane out with some of the extras.  We ordered 700 wheat and 600 corn tortillas-had no idea that looked like a full car load by itself.  I showed up at Taco Loco and stuttered something like-Are all those mine?  They went on the plane by themselves so we can get them there.  I am frequently asked where is this camp-Get out a map-Find Fairbanks and follow the Tanana River to the city of Tanana where it meets the Yukon, follow the Yukon about 1/2 the way to Ruby and find the foothills mountains called Kokrine-the camp is right there.  You can Google Earth it too but hard to find.  The short sum is that it is way, way, way close to nowhere.  The next plane is for me and the groceries.  The guys this morning were not too happy about having to go first with no cook and no food.  I think they were worried about lunch.  The plane is a beautiful Kodiak-built for Alaska!!  The pilot said the airstrip is in great condition and weather is perfect-I am so excited.

The New Adventure Begins-Off to the Yukon River

All the months of planning and getting ready and the first plane load leaves in the morning for Kokrine Hills Bible Camp.  This is the work weeks, we are building a real flushing bathroom and bath house.  Yippeee!!!  The barges left a few weeks ago carrying all the building materials and bulk food.  I am again cooking.  I am so excited, I have not figured out how standing on my feet for 16 hour plus days can be relaxing except to say it is of the Lord.  I love the place, the people, and the work.  I spent the last few days shopping for all the perishable items, loading music on the IPOD and finding bread recipes.  I am perfecting a new type of fresh ground whole wheat bread while I am there.  I have shipped a food mill and lots of grain.  I have many recipes and lots of ideas.
